WELCOME ARIZONA, IDAHO and NEVADA FILMMAKERS!

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF REQUESTS,
YET STILL UPHOLDING OUR FOCUS TO SUPPORT FILMMAKING IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION,
WE ARE EXPANDING OUR SUBMISSION ELIBILITY AREA TO INCLUDE ALL STATES CATEGORIZED BY THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS AS REPRESENTING THE "ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION".
THEREFORE, BEGINNING WITH CRFF 2010,
WE WILL NOT ONLY ACCEPT SUBMISSIONS FROM CO, MT, NM, UT and WY BUT ALSO FROM AZ, ID AND NV.

Entries are limited to those who reside or have produced their film in the Rocky Mountain Region. (NOTE: Scripts will only be accepted by those RESIDING in the Rocky Mountain Region.)

The submissions should be appropriate for G, PG, PG13 and R ratings, although obtaining a rating prior to submission is not necessary.

(*** We reserve the right to not show any submissions we deem outside the scope of these ratings.)

Please do not submit works in progress.

We are looking for three types of films, scripts, trailers and actor reels. The categories are:

Student Films ($25): must be a high school or college student with valid id. The film length is 30 minutes or less. (Increases to $30 June 1st; and to $35 July 15th).

Short Films ($35): Any non-student, narrative or documentary films that are 30 minutes or less in length. (Increases to $45 June 1st; and to $55 July 15th)

Feature Films ($45): Any narrative or documentary feature, considered commercial or not, between 50 and 110 minutes in length. (Increases to $55 June 1st; and to $65 July 15th).

Scripts (Feature length only) ($30): Any narrative or documentary feature script, considered commercial or not, between 50 and 110 minutes/pages in length. Hardcopies only. (Increases to $40 June 1st; and to $50 July 15th).

*** ALL FEATURE, SHORT and STUDENT FILM SUBMITTERS are requested to ALSO SEND IN A TRAILER of their submitted film - NO EXTRA CHARGE! See the advantages and specs for the trailer below, in addition to possibly being used for promotional purposes. You do not need to "Submit" the trailer separately via the on-line submission form, just send it along with your film submission materials.

Trailers / Actor Reels ($10): This option is for anyone who wants to promote their full-length feature film, but aren't prepared to submit the actual film at this time, or for those who want to promote their acting talent. The trailer / reel will be shown during the festival's Friday night Meet-and-Greet "Trailer Park" party. The length must be at least 1 and no more than 2 minutes, including any credits. Trailers / reels will not be judged, and must be rated G or PG. Actor's who previously submitted a reel to the CRFF are welcome to submit again. (Increases to $15 June 1st; and to $20 July 15th).

Submission Materials

Submissions are a combination of online and mail. You will have to send two (2) DVDs (or CDs for Trailers and Actor Reels; printed copies for Scripts) to our offices, postmarked NO LATER THAN the submission deadline for the current submission period (i.e 31 May for "Early Submissions", 30 June for "Regular Submissions" and 31 July for "Late Submissions"). Submission materials not postmarked by the given deadline will not qualify for the deadline fee, even if paid for in advance, and the submitter will be responsible for remitting the difference in the fee amount based on the postmark date in order to continue to be considered for the festival.

Please do not worry about fancy covers; a paper or thin jewel case will work fine. You must fill out the entry form online, and then you can either pay online or send a check with your submission. In either case, be sure to include the submission number that will be provided via the online submission on both DVDs (or CDs or Scripts) and on the cases so we that can easily identify them.

All Student, Short and Feature submissions must be on DVD in NTSC format. (Sorry, no Blue-Ray this year).
All Trailers and Actor Reels should be on CD or DVD (data disc formatted, not DVD formatted) in QuickTime movie format.

Free Submission Incentive Program

Film festivals are often part of the marketing process for any independent film or screenplay. With many filmmakers submitting to as many as 15 festivals or more, and the cost of these festivals being between $20 and $100 per film, this can really add up, especially for the micro budget of many indie projects.

In an effort to help keep costs down for those with minimal budgets, CRFF is offering an incentive program where submitters EARN CREDIT* towards getting their submission in for free. The basic premise is quite simple. If a submitter can get 5 others to submit a Film or Screenplay to CRFF, then that submitter can get their submission fee reimbursed. Alternatively, getting 10 others to submit Actor Reels or Trailers (other than trailers of current submissions) is also a way to earn that credit. (NOTE: Combinations thereof, e.g. 3 films and 4 actor reels, would also qualify; as long as it is a 2-to-1 of actor reels or trailers to films or screenplays.)

We also see this as an incentive for filmmakers, screenwriters and actors to network with others in the region – one of the main goals of CRFF. Getting out there and discussing their work and the festival with each other will become an invaluable part of their general marketing process now and for future projects.

Just as important is the fact that the free submissions from this incentive program are treated the same as the paid submissions. CRFF’s two main guarantees of reviewing all submissions in their entirety and providing judging feedback to all submitters will apply to these free submissions as well. So, these submissions have the same chance of being screened at the festival or winning an award as any other submission.

* IN ORDER TO EARN CREDITS, your name (as it appears on your submission) needs to be put into the "How did you hear about us?" question of the Submission Form of the others you encouraged to submit to CRFF. Please make sure they do this - it is the only way we can keep track for you. If they just say "a friend", that tells us nothing.

We hope this helps enable those of you with micro budgets for your project(s) to still participate in the invaluable film festival circuit - get out their and network! We look forward to seeing you and your work at the Castle Rock Film Festival!
